I’m not sure, but I’d bet even money that the price he’ll pay is his memory of their interaction.

(It looks like a cup, or perhaps a Grail. Any watery tarts expected?)

In both words and drawings, this page so beautifully captures the emotional intensity of this moment for Spooky.

Maybe he’s summoning a devil, but I’d normally associate a chalice symbol with the Holy Grail. He might be summoning Merlin, who I’d hope would be immune from the Grey Working. Or maybe Spooky is summoning aid from the Holy Grail itself.

I can imagine that somewhen in Spooky’s history, he helped someone powerful and was rewarded the chalice necklace as repayment, a one-use wish sort of thing for emergencies. Perhaps a drink from the Grail could cure Mitch completely, not just of his horrific physical injuries, but also of whatever’s causing that blue fire to flare up from his arm.
