LIVESTREAM NEWS: I’m having another livestream this month for the members of the Woolfpack, and Patrons are voting on when it should be. If you haven’t voted yet, please hop on over and cast your vote!
NEW PATRON THANK YOUS
The only reason I’m able to keep making The Young Protectors is because of the very generous support of readers like you on Patreon. And we had two new folks sign up over the last few days! So, please join me in sending out a very special thank you and welcome to the new members of the Woolfpack this week!
Demetri and Lauren D.
Thank you so much for your amazing support, Demetri and Lauren! You and the other members of the Woolfpack are all the real superheroes of this comic!
I wonder if this is all apophenia (that was today’s Word of the Day) - - the portals let us see something from smoke, from dots, on toast, and in our minds using random patterns.
I think that Flyboy has gone into the past through that portal. The tree? The trees haven’t been all knocked down back then. Spooky remembered the location of that church but said that he remembered nothing about what happened there. I wonder if Flyboy is going to have to do something in the past to stop Spooky from getting hurt by stabby zombies in the present…
I think it is like the Spells or rituals in the first Dr Strange movie - - there are dangers involved in doing certain spells and rituals and this kind of confusion and/or this kind of mirrored deception (if it is deception) is part and parcel of the Sphere Celestial. Like an unforeseen consequence that no one wants or likes.
added: or, for the rotten-hearted like the Platinum Priestess, entirely foreseen chaos of bad things and rotten outcomes…
So something I was going to say a few pages ago but was busy when I read the comics and it kinda slipped my mind. As much as I love Spooky to bits for someone who talks about how creativity is the real power behind magic he’s really not displaying that side well. Okay, so maybe he’s panicked (I mean this whole sequence takes minutes at best, the time from when Spooky discovers zombies are magic immune to the time he gets stabbed is probably seconds), maybe undead just aren’t his thing, sure all of that is possible. I can even get behind authorial reasons like not wanting to turn a fan favourite into a Mary Sue (pure speculation here, don’t feel the need to address this in any way)… but seriously, so your magic doesn’t blast zombies, use it to shield yourself, to lift yourself and escape from their reach, to open a pit underneath them (the ground is likely not magic resistant) that they’d have to get out of, to pick up big sticks and whack their heads off…
Maybe Spooky is not quite as badass as he thinks he is just because he managed to outwit that demon and he got the drop on PP. I mean, at the end of the day while he did get out of hell, he does act as one of the “senior” Protectors and he is one of the foremost experts on magic… well it doesn’t change the fact that he’s still young and may have a lot of stuff he still needs to learn.
nuuuuu not mah boyyyyyyyyy (((φ(◎ロ◎;)φ)))
I forget how big this “arena” is but it doesn’t seem large enough to be… so… separated from the battlefield. Which means Flyboy just got shunted to another timeframe and… squints oh no oh no I would bet money that’s Spooks’s body in the first panel!!! which makes this the future and a bad one at that!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA this is what’s going to happen if Spooky doesn’t get help
⊃゜Д゜)⊃ヾ(´゚Д゚`;)ゝ (#`゚д´)ノ
Ok. Not observant and sharp eyed like some of the other patrons. here. Uh. That is not an insult. Sleeping Spooks on the bus is the sleeping unknown at the tree? Argghhh! I am so lost at this point!
Ack. I was so busy with other stuff I forgot to check in with my webcomics updates.
So, first off, YIKES, no no no no no, do NOT stab Spooky, you totally did NOT do that, EEK DARN DRAT. Spooky, use your emergency bottle fast! You do have an emergency bottle, don’t you? Perhaps to put yourself into stasis until someone can rescue you?
Mitch, you’re gonna be so pissed when that portal shuts before you can go through it again, and we apologize in advance, but the plot kinda demands that neither you nor we see how present-day Spooky survives at this time.
But fear not, Mitch. Past-Spooky and you can find the Sphere Celestiale again in your current time period! That’s how you and Cory will get home… piece of cake… right?
What if a damaged Sphere Celestial (if that is what this artifact really is) when damaged or when the spell is invoked wrong - creates portals to illusions rather than reality? What if each of those portals reflect something in the mind of the user or whoever is nearby?
“Portals to illusions” sounds like an ill-defined concept to me. Perhaps you’re thinking of something like that ST:TNG episode where Beverley Crusher was trapped in a pocket universe that mimicked the bridge of the Enterprise? Or a mind-reading holodeck that tries to give you an experience it thinks you want? Those aren’t illusions as I normally understand the term, but more, um, quasi-reality? Like, the stuff is real, but only very temporarily?
Or do you think Mitch and Cory haven’t gone anywhere at all and are still in the original forest/graveyard but they see something that isn’t there and can’t see what is there? Sort of like what Spooky already went through with “Anaado” and their return trip to “Hell”?
