Pretty darn good, Amanda. Why do you ask?
In continuing to share the recommendations for stories featuring black heroes y’all gave in the comments of this post, Mark L. recommended a comic featuring a real life hero — “the outstanding March trilogy graphic novels about Rep. John Lewis” — and it looks fantastic. 5 stars on Amazon, available on Kindle and also on Comixology (for a much lower price). I was also able to download the first book for free from my local library using Libby. Winner of the National Book Award for Young People’s Literature. Here’s the summary:
Discover the inside story of the Civil Rights Movement through the eyes of one of its most iconic figures, Congressman John Lewis. March is the award-winning, #1 bestselling graphic novel trilogy recounting his life in the movement, co-written with Andrew Aydin and drawn by Nate Powell.
Comic creator Raina Telgemeier had this to say about it:
“March is one of the most important graphic novels ever created – an extraordinary presentation of an extraordinary life, and proof that young people can change the world. I’m stunned by the power of these comics, and grateful that Congressman Lewis’s story will enlighten and inspire future generations of readers and leaders.”
I don’t know about you, but I’m down for some inspirational reading about how people can change the world for the better. Definitely check it out.
The only reason I’m able to keep making The Young Protectors is because of the very generous support of readers like you on Patreon. Especially now.
And I wanted to send out an extra special thank you this time around to those who just signed up or who increased their pledge. We took a week off from posting, and during that time a whopping 17 new Patrons joined us! And it’s an even bigger deal than that.
You see, over the last several months the amount of support I’ve received has been decreasing by about $50-$100 month. The only reason I’m able to keep making this comic is because of the Patreon support and so that trend was obviously… not good. It’s one of the reasons I plan to do a big advertising push this summer.
But for the first time in months, we’ve gone in the other direction! On May 26th, we had 780 patrons. Today we have 794! On May 26, we had $5,206 in support, and now we have $5,328! I still have a ways to go to get back to breaking even again, but this is a big morale boost to me. I’ve been working hard to make the site better for new readers (such as adding a new Welcome Page, and signpost pages after each arc), and it makes me feel like I’m on the right track.
But more importantly, I know we’re in very challenging times. And it just feels good to know y’all believe in what we’re trying to do here and want it to continue. And that’s the best support of all.
So, please join me in sending out a very special thank you and welcome to the new members of the Woolfpack this week!
Andy, Crazybarney, Gore, Mahou456, Josh A., Alex C., Skylar C., Charles F., Jayvon G., Robert G., C.J. J., Ashley K., Kent M., Jordan M., Logan R., Michael W. and Ilya Z.
Thank you so much for your amazing support, Andy, Crazybarney, Gore, Mahou456, Josh, Alex, Skylar, Charles, Jayvon, Robert, C.J., Ashley, Kent, Jordan, Logan, Michael and Ilya!
And let’s also please thank totally awesome readers who were already Patrons, but who upped their pledge this week:
(Thank you so much, Peter!)
Thank you all so much for your amazing support! You and the other members of the Woolfpack are all the real superheroes of this comic!

So! Amanda’s onboard with saving Ambrosia! And she just had some kind of brainstorm about how to do it! But what is her plan exactly? And will it really be able to keep them all safe from those lurking magic users?
Tune in this Wednesday to find out! Hope to see you there!
